OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords pulled off a gritty 3-2 victory over the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday night at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre.
The match was a true back-and-forth affair. Loyalist took the first set 25-23, but Durham fought back to capture the second and third sets. The Lancers responded by taking the fourth set 25-22, setting the stage for a decisive fifth set. The Lords maintained their focus and energy to close out the match with a 15-11 victory in the final set.
Durham's offence was powered by Piet Kuypers, who led the team with 15 kills on 28 attempts, hitting at an impressive .429. Trent Engel also contributed significantly, adding 10 kills on 19 attempts for a .421 hitting percentage. William Egan was also a force with 11 kills.
Setter Kyle Travis played a pivotal role in orchestrating the offence, recording 27 assist. Jayden Benjamin provided additional playmaking support with 18 assists.
On the defensive end, the Lords displayed determination, with 38 digs and seven total blocks.
The Lords return to action in a week on November 13 against the Seneca Sting on the road at 6:00 PM.
