SCARBOROUGH, Ont. - In a fiercely contested matchup, the Durham Lords women's volleyball team fell to the Centennial Colts in a close five-set encounter, with the final score reading 3-2 in favour of the hosts.
The Lords came out of the gates firing, taking the first two sets 25-20 and 25-19.Â
Durham's offence was led by Aislinn Pedersen, Katherine Konkle, Chelsea Oke and Elizabeth McFarland, all of whom tallied double-digit points.Â
Oke led the team with 10 kills and added nine digs, while McFarland contributed eight kills and three solo blocks.
Despite Durham's early success, Centennial fought back with resilience. They won the third set 25-23 and managed to take the fourth set in a close 26-24 battle, forcing a decisive fifth set.Â
Centennial's balanced attack and aggressive serving helped shift the momentum, eventually leading them to a narrow 15-12 victory in the final set.
Brooke Young distributed the ball effectively, finishing with 16 assists, while Erin Black contributed nine assists of her own. On the defensive side, Konkle was a force at the net with seven solo blocks.
The Lords are back at it against the Loyalist Lancers on Wednesday at 6:00 PM for another home match.
