PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - In their first competition since the revival of the Durham College varsity curling program, the Lords go 2-0 at the Trent Bonspiel on Saturday.
Returning to the ice for the first time since the mid-1990's, Durham opened the day with a draw against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. The Ridgebacks took a 1-0 lead through one end before the Lords bounced back with four points over the next two ends.
Ontario Tech slowly clawed their way back, one point at a time, but could not complete the comeback as the Lords ultimately won it 6-5.
The Lords finished the day against more Ontario University Athletics (OUA) competition, taking on the Guelph Gryphons.
Impressively, Durham kept the 2024 OUA bronze medalists off the scoreboard through six ends, taking a 5-0 lead into the seventh end. The Gryphons put one on the board, however as the Lords would run their opposition out of rocks, the draw ended in seven to give the Lords a 5-1 win.
With two wins on the day, the Lords placed second behind the Brock Badgers, falling short on the tiebreaker shot by a single centimetre.
