MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - The Durham Lords men's and women's curling teams delivered strong performances at the 2026 OCAA Curling Championships, with both squads placing among the top four for the first time since 1996.
With varsity curling returning to Durham College last season, the championship marked a major milestone for the program's continued growth and development. Competing against some of the province's top teams, the Lords showed resilience, sportsmanship and steady improvement throughout the tournament.
The Durham women opened round robin play with a 9-2 loss to Humber before bouncing back with a 9-8 win over Sault. They continued to battle through a challenging schedule, facing Mohawk and Niagara, and earned another 7-6 victory against Confederation.
That win secured Durham a place in the semifinals, where the Lords faced Niagara. Despite a strong effort, Durham fell in the semifinal and moved on to the bronze medal match against Mohawk. The women concluded their championship run with a fourth-place finish.
Madison Davies was recognized for her outstanding performance at lead, earning a Championship Second Team All-Star selection.
The men's team also faced a demanding round robin schedule, beginning with a 9-1 loss to Humber before responding with a 6-5 win over Sault. Durham added key victories against Niagara with an 8-6 win and Confederation with an 8-5 win, positioning themselves among the tournament's top four teams.
In the semifinal, the Lords played Sault in a closely contested matchup, falling by a single point. Durham then faced Mohawk in the bronze medal match, finishing the championship in fourth place.
Skip Canyon Myers earned Championship Second Team All-Star honours on the men's side in recognition of his performance throughout the tournament.
In addition to their on-ice results, Durham was recognized for excellence in sportsmanship. The Lords received fair play awards in both the men's and women's divisions, highlighting the program's commitment to respect, integrity and positive competition.
Advancing both teams to the final four stage represents a significant step forward for Durham curling. With the program continuing to rebuild and gain experience since its return, the 2026 championships showcased the dedication of the student-athletes and coaching staff.
The Lords leave the season with valuable championship team experience, individual honours and a strong foundation to build upon as varsity curling continues to grow at Durham College.
