OSHAWA, ON - In the regular season finale, the Durham College women's volleyball team were handed only their fourth loss of the season as the Loyalist Lancers took home the win in straight sets.
The Lords were seeking revenge in this showdown, after one of their only three losses coming into the day occurred in Belleville back in November.
A 7-2 run for the visiting Lancers side put them in a comfortable position to take the coveted opening set. From that point on, Loyalist spent most of set keeping a four to five point cushion.
A service error ended the first set as the Lancers won 25-19 to take a 1-0 lead.
Durham went ahead 3-0 early in the second set, but once Loyalist answered back with eight consecutive points they would not look back from there. Loyalist piled on, taking the second set by a 25-17 score.
Loyalist went on to take the third and final set 25-13 to complete the sweep.
Amanda Larsen (Toronto, ON) accounted for 39% of points for the Lords, scoring 11.0 on the day. She recorded nine kills and two blocks to close out the regular season.
Jayde Smyth (Canmore, AB) hit five kills, while Chelsea Oke (Brooklin, ON) put four on the board.
Aislinn Pedersen (Hamilton, ON) and Oke were both in double-digit territory for digs with 12 and 10, respectively. Brooke Young (Chestermere, AB) finished the day with 15 assists.
The Lords look ahead to the qualifying round ahead of the 2024 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship, which Durham has earned the right to home court advantage in the round. Stay tuned for a date, time and opponent to be announced.
