OSHAWA, ON – The Durham College Department of Athletics & Recreation is proud to celebrate 65 student-athletes for their academic achievements during the 2023-24 year.
The Bert Dejeet Memorial Award is an annual honour earned by a female and male student-athlete for having the top overall GPA among all their athletic peers at Durham College. There was a four-way tie with perfect 5.0 grade point average's as
Ryan Mattes of the men's baseball team and
Ben Rocheleau and men's volleyball team took home the award along with
Heather Bews of the women's rugby team and
Camryn Wood of the women's rugby and basketball teams.
In addition, one student-athletss received an CCAA Academic All-Canadian Award.
Emma Bergen of the women's basketball team was honoured with the CCAA's most prestigious student-athlete award, epitomizing their mandate of recognizing excellence in academics and athletics. To achieve this honour, a student-athlete must be named to their respective conference all-star teams in a CCAA sport and achieve honours standing.
Every year Durham College recognizes the team with the highest overall GPA collectively among all the teams' players. The women's rugby team earned that award this year, featuring two players with perfect GPA's and six players with honours.
