Durham adds Belleville product Gavin Gardiner to 2026 baseball recruiting class

OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College men's baseball has continued to strengthen its 2026 recruiting class with the commitment of Belleville native Gavin Gardiner.

The 5-foot-11 utility player and right-handed pitcher joins the Lords after developing through several respected programs in Ontario, bringing experience on both sides of the ball along with a competitive approach to the game.

"Gavin is the type of player every coach appreciates because he puts the team first. Whether it's on the mound or in the field, he competes with confidence and isn't afraid of the moment," said Head Coach Scott Cawker. "He's developed through some strong programs, and we believe there's still plenty of upside in his game. We're excited to help him take that next step at Durham."

Gardiner played with the Oshawa Legionnaires at both the U16 and U18 levels after spending his early years with the Quinte Royals. During his high school career at Centennial Secondary School, he was recognized as the school's Most Valuable Player, highlighting the impact he made on the diamond.

One of the defining moments of Gardiner's baseball journey came when he helped the Quinte Royals capture an Eastern Ontario Baseball Association (EOBA) U16 championship, a memory that still stands out as the favourite of his playing career.

Gardiner will study in the Electrical Engineering Technician program at Durham College while continuing his athletic career with the Lords.

"I'm excited to join Durham because it's a good school with good people and a good baseball program," said Gardiner. "I'm looking forward to continuing to develop my game and competing with the team."

Gardiner is one of several newcomers set to join the Lords for the 2026 season as Durham continues to build a roster capable of competing for OCAA championships.

The baseball season opens at Kinsmen Stadium on Saturday, September 5 with a doubleheader against the St. Clair Saints. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
