Whitby's Adam Carmichael returns home to join Durham Lords baseball

OSHAWA, Ont. - Adam Carmichael is set to join the Durham College men's baseball team for the 2026 OCAA season.

The 6-foot-0 right-handed pitcher and first baseman from Whitby is the newest addition to the baseball program, and he is ready to leave his mark in the green and gold.

Carmichael arrives at Durham with experience on both sides of the border. After stops at the University of Rio Grande in Ohio and Marshalltown Community College in Iowa, he's come home to compete at a high level close to family and friends.

"Adam brings valuable collegiate experience and a strong competitive mindset to our program," said Head Coach Scott Cawker. "He's a player who understands the work that goes into winning, and we're excited to have him back home representing Durham. I know he'll be a great addition to our clubhouse and play an important role in what we're building this season."

Carmichael's baseball story is already highlighted by moments under pressure. He still remembers one of his favourites — a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning of the Lake Ontario Secondary School Athletics (LOSSA) semifinals. That swing helped propel his Sinclair Secondary School squad toward a championship and showed the kind of poise he brings to the biggest moments.

His versatility on the field stands out. Whether he's on the mound or at first base, Carmichael gives coaches options and brings a steady presence to the lineup. The combination of his pitching and hitting makes him a valuable addition as the Lords chase their own postseason milestones.

Returning to Ontario was an easy decision for Carmichael, especially with the chance to play for head coach Scott. The opportunity to represent Durham College — and do it near his hometown — felt like the right fit at the right time.

"I'm excited to get to work and to try and help this team compete for a championship," he said.

Off the field, Carmichael is just as committed. An honour roll student at Sinclair, he'll be studying Business Administration – Accounting at Durham, balancing the demands of the classroom with the grind of the season.

The baseball season opens at Kinsmen Stadium on Saturday, September 5 with a doubleheader against the St. Clair Saints. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
