OSHAWA, Ont. - Representing Ontario, Daniel "Jordan" Bholla competed in ESPORT CANADA's 2024 Rocket League Canada Day Invitational, placing second.
Along with Durham College teammate Alexis "Xocion" Guyennon, who served as a substitute for Team Ontario, Jordan was one of four players on the squad to represent the provincial team.
In addition to Ontario, eight provinces and territories had teams in the competition, also including Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Québec, Saskatchewan and Yukon.
Each match in the swiss stage was a best-of-three.
Ontario began the day with a 2-0 (3-0; 4-2) win over Manitoba, with Jordan scoring three of four goals in the second game to complete the sweep. They were pushed to three games in their match against Alberta after dropping the opener 5-2, but would bounce back with 3-0 and 3-1 victories.
Matched up against a strong Nova Scotian side in the final match of the swiss stage, Ontario lost by only one goal in each game to suffer a two-game sweep.
Seeded against Saskatchewan in the quarter-finals, Ontario knocked off their opponents from the prairies in two games with 4-0 and 10-1 wins. Ontario's hot streak carried into the best-of-five semifinal where the team only needed three games to eliminate Québec.
In a rematch against Nova Scotia for the title, both teams would trade off wins back and forth before Nova Scotia ultimately won game five by a 3-2 score to take the title. Jordan scored in four of five matches.
