OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College varsity esports program competed at the Canadian Esports Nationals to conclude the fall semester, sending four teams to compete for a national title.
Durham had a presence in the Rocket League, Valorant, League of Legends and Call of Duty.
Rocket League was composed of four groups of four teams, with the Lords being dropped into Group B with Carleton University, Concordia University and Western University.
The Lords finished on top of the group, securing a matchup in the quarter-finals against the University of Waterloo, where the Lords won 3-0. Durham's hot run eventually came to an end in the semifinal, falling to Conestoga College 3-1.
Durham were one of 23 teams in the Valorant competition, which were split into five groups of four and one group of three. The Lords competed in Group E along with Conestoga College, Fanshawe College and Sheridan College.
After advancing through the group stage, the Lords swept the University of Toronto-Mississauga before falling 2-0 to St. Clair College, the eventual champions.
In League of Legends, the Lords drew into Group D with the University of Toronto, Western University and Keyano College. Durham suffered losses to Western and UTM.
The Call of Duty team competed against the University of Alberta and Keyano College, with Keyano making it as far as the semifinals before being stopped by a strong St. Clair side.
Durham College and Ontario Tech are doing their final preparations ahead of the third annual Battle for the Belt competition on January 17 at 1:00 PM, where they compete in a series of games.
The competition is open to the public free of charge and all are welcome to attend. While cheering on the Lords, grab a controller and play some games. Opportunities to win prizes are available.
