OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords women's basketball team opened their 2025–26 home schedule Tuesday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre, falling 62–36 to the visiting Seneca Sting.
Durham got off to a solid start in the opening quarter, matching Seneca point-for-point through the early minutes and taking a lead midway through the frame.
But a tough second quarter saw the Lords' offence stall, producing just four points before the break. Despite flashes of momentum in the second half, the Sting's defensive pressure ultimately kept the Lords from closing the gap.
Kathy Orellana paced the Lords with 11 points on an efficient 5-for-8 shooting, including a make from beyond the arc. Sarah Laplante posted 13 points, hitting three triples while adding two assists and a block.
Aiesha Lewis battled hard inside, recording a double-digit rebounding effort with 10 boards and four points, while Beatrice Johnson added seven rebounds and three points off the bench.
Telia Campbell stuffed the stat sheet with five steals, four assists, and five points despite facing heavy defensive pressure throughout the night.
As a team, Durham shot 33.3 percent from three-point range, while forcing eight steals and collecting 27 rebounds.
The Lords hit the court again on Friday, October 31 in Ottawa against the Algonquin Wolves at 6:00 PM.
