OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords women's basketball team started strong but ultimately fell 58-47 to the Centennial Colts in OCAA East Division play on Tuesday night at the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre.
Durham came out energized, taking a 19-10 lead after the opening quarter with disciplined defence and efficient shooting inside the paint.
The Lords' ball movement created open looks early, and the team's energy on the boards limited second-chance opportunities for Centennial.
By halftime, the Lords held a 34-24 advantage and appeared in control.
However, momentum swung after the break as Centennial stormed back with a 20-3 third quarter performance.
Durham struggled to find rhythm offensively during that stretch, turning the ball over and allowing the Colts to capitalize in transition.
Despite regrouping defensively in the fourth, the Lords couldn't close the gap as Centennial maintained control down the stretch.
Taige Matosas-Adderly led Durham with 11 points, five rebounds and four steals, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc.
Sarah-Jane Laplante also scored 11 points, adding two rebounds and a block, while Camryn Wood recorded seven points, nine rebounds and four steals in a strong two-way effort.
Telia Campbell registered four points, five rebounds, four steals and a trio of assists.
The Lords finished the game shooting 34.9 per cent from the field and 30.8 per cent from long range while forcing 16 steals.
Durham will be back on the road on Saturday as the Lords visit the George Brown Huskies for a 1:00 PM tip-off.
