BARRIE, Ont. - The Durham Lords women's basketball team dropped a 60–51 decision to the Georgian Grizzlies on Friday night in Barrie.
Sarah-Jane Laplante led Durham with 18 points, connecting on four shots from beyond the arc while adding five rebounds and four assists.
Telia Campbell and Kathy Orellana each chipped in eight points, with Orellana also registering three steals and Campbell hitting an unforgettable one-handed three-point shot from half court at the buzzer to end the opening quarter.
Aiesha Lewis made her presence felt in the paint, pulling down 14 rebounds and blocking two shots, while Camryn Wood filled the stat sheet with nine boards, five assists, and a block.
The Lords showed fight in the second half, trimming Georgian's double-digit lead down to five midway through their third quarter. However, turnovers plagued Durham throughout the game, as 28 giveaways led to 18 points for the Grizzlies.
Durham will look to bounce back next week as they continue OCAA league play, aiming to build on the defensive effort and clean up execution on offence.
Returning to the Campus Recreation & Wellness Centre this coming Tuesday, the Lords will tip-off against the Centennial Colts at 6:00 PM.
