DC women's basketball adds Serena Scotland-Senior

OSHAWA, Ont. - Serena Scotland-Senior has signed with the Durham Lords women's basketball team and will join the squad for the 2025-26 season.

The Brampton, Ontario native started her high school career at St. Marguerite d'Youville Secondary School as a junior.

In both years, she helped lead her team to back-to-back Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) championships.

"I didn't have a lot of opportunities to play outside of school, but I made the most out of what I had," she stated.

Along with playing for her high school team, she also played basketball at Humber College.

As a result of her efforts, Scotland-Senior was awarded for athletic excellence and a posted a double-double performance in the final tournament of the season.

Scotland-Senior's most memorable moment to date came during her senior year of high school. In her last game, she led her team to a ROPSSAA championship.

It was also during this moment that she realized how much her teammates meant to her and how they became her family.

"Even after your season is done and you're not on the court with your teammates anymore, you still have that bond, and that bond never fades," she shared.

The opportunity to join the Durham Lords women's basketball team came at the perfect time for Scotland-Senior.

"I just want to say that playing basketball throughout my whole life was not very possible for me," she said. "I'm just an example that if you want something bad enough, you can achieve it. You can achieve anything you put your mind to."

She felt it was the best option for her, both academically and athletically.

"Durham is somewhere I feel I can perfect my craft," she said. "It's like the teammates and coaches believe in me and see my potential. Coming here is better than going to any other school right now."

The 6'0" centre/power forward is expected to make an immediate impact on the team.

"We are thrilled to have Serena join our program," said head coach Sherlon Chance. "Her skills, work ethic, and leadership abilities will be a huge asset to our team. We can't wait to see her in action."

Scotland-Senior will be enrolling in the Child and Youth Care program this September at Durham College.
