Stefanie Ciz is an Animation Digital Production student and women's volleyball player at Durham College. With a passion for art, her disciplined approach to balancing academics and athletics, led her to an enriching experience as part of Disney's International College Program.
 
At Disney, she learned valuable life skills and gained inspiration to pursue her goal of becoming a Disney animator.
 
Read below for Stefanie's account of her summer.
   
From a very young age, I was captivated by the magic of art.
 
The way it could tell stories, evoke emotions, and transport us to different worlds fascinated me.
 
As I grew older, I realized that animation was the perfect medium to channel my artistic passion.
 
I decided to pursue a career in Animation Digital Production at Durham College, knowing that it would allow me to express my creativity and collaborate with a team to create something truly special.
 
The journey of a student-athlete can be demanding, but with the support of my coaches and teammates, I've learned to balance both academics and athletics.
 
My program requires a significant amount of time and effort, but stepping into the gym provides a much-needed break from the stresses of studying.
 
It's a place where I can focus solely on volleyball and immerse myself in the joy of being part of a team.
 
This discipline and dedication have been instrumental in my growth, both on and off the court.
 
 
A DISNEY ADVENTURE
 
This past summer, I had the incredible opportunity to work at Disney as part of the International College Program.
 
Based in Epcot, my role was primarily in merchandise, where I had the privilege of interacting with guests and ensuring they had a memorable experience.
 
One of my favorite aspects of the job was pin trading, a beloved tradition at Disney.
 
I had the chance to engage with guests from all over the world, teaching them about pin trading and witnessing the excitement on their faces.
 
It was a fast-paced environment, but every moment was filled with fun and magic.
 
Working at Disney taught me valuable lessons that I will carry back to the court and my life as a student.
 
The experience instilled in me the importance of discipline, teamwork, and maintaining a positive attitude under pressure.
 
In a high-expectation environment, I learned to manage my time effectively, communicate clearly, and navigate challenges with a calm mindset.
 
These skills have been invaluable in both my academic and athletic pursuits, reminding me of the significance of showing up consistently and supporting those around me.
 
 
A DREAM REALIZED
 
My time at Disney also opened my eyes to the multitude of career opportunities within the company.
 
While some of my friends in the program chose to extend their time and explore part-time positions, I made the decision to return to school and complete my animation program.
 
Being a Disney animator has always been a dream of mine, and after my experience at Disney, that dream feels even more within reach.
 
I gained inspiration and made valuable connections that will undoubtedly aid me on my path to achieving that goal.
 
To any student-athlete considering an opportunity like the Disney International College Program, I wholeheartedly encourage them to seize it.
 
Even if Disney has never held a special place in their hearts, this experience is designed for individuals from all walks of life.
 
It is a unique opportunity to learn essential skills, immerse oneself in the enchanting atmosphere of the parks, and create lifelong memories.
 
As our coach, Tony Clarke, often says, "You get what you put into it."
 
Whether it's making friends from different countries, exploring various shops and parks, or participating in backstage tours, the possibilities are endless.
 
I had an incredible time during my program, and I firmly believe it is an experience everyone should embrace.
 

A NEW HORIZON
 
As I continue my journey as a student-athlete at Durham College, I carry with me the lessons learned, the friendships formed, and the dreams ignited during my time at Disney.
 
The pursuit of a career in animation is no longer a distant aspiration, but a tangible reality I am determined to achieve.
 
With the support of my coaches, teammates, and the invaluable experiences I have gained, I am ready to embrace whatever challenges and opportunities lie ahead.
 
The world of animation awaits, and I am excited to leave my mark on it.
