OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham Lords dropped their home opener on Saturday afternoon at Kinsmen Stadium, falling 14–8 to the visiting Fanshawe Falcons in a high-scoring affair.
Fanshawe set the tone early with a run in the first inning before exploding for six in the second to take control. The Falcons continued to pile on, adding single runs in the fourth and sixth while putting up five more in the fifth to build a commanding lead.
Durham showed resilience at the plate, responding with a run in the third, then cutting into the deficit with a three-run rally in the fifth. The Lords carried that momentum into the sixth, pushing across four more to keep the game within reach. However, Fanshawe's early cushion proved too much to overcome.
Third baseman Malik James led the way with a home run and four RBIs, while designated hitter Evan Torres went 3-for-5 and scored three times.
Ryan Mattes chipped in with an RBI double and two runs scored, and Eddie Borutskie added two hits and a stolen base.
Durham's pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts but allowed 12 hits and 14 runs, seven of them earned.
The Lords return to action on Sunday at Kinsmen Stadium with a doubleheader against the Lambton Lions at 1:00 and 3:30 PM.
