OSHAWA, Ont. - Durham College Athletics is excited to welcome Tyron James to the Lords men's baseball program. The Whitby native joins the team as a versatile middle infielder, bringing experience, energy and a competitive mindset to the diamond.
James, who plays both shortstop and second base, arrives at Durham with a clear vision for his future on the field and in the classroom. He is enrolled in the college's Animation - Digital Production program and says the combination of academics and athletics made Durham the perfect fit.
"Tyron is the type of player you love bringing into a program," said Head Coach Scott Cawker. "He competes hard, understands the game and has experience winning. He brings great energy and takes pride in doing whatever it takes to help the team succeed. We're excited to have him join the group."
For James, choosing Durham was about more than baseball. "I truly believe that the animation program is what I need to turn the vision I have for myself and my future into reality," he said. "From the sports perspective, DC has a great culture that pushes you to want to win and bring hardware home, and I believe this team has the capabilities to do so. I just want to be able to contribute in any way for us to reach that goal."
James brings a strong athletic résumé to campus. He previously attended Thompson Rivers University, earning the program's Rookie of the Year award while posting a .323 batting average. That same year, he helped capture a BC Senior Men's Baseball Championship in Kamloops.
His earlier stops include seasons with the Whitby Canadians AAA and the Ontario Yankees, where he was recognized for his impact and leadership.
Some of James' favourite baseball memories are tied to family. "Playing a U.S. tournament knockout game with my brother at second base and myself at shortstop," he said. "I've trained with him for years and it was the first time we got to actually see it happen in game. And we played very well."
Now, he's eager to make new memories in green and gold. With a proven track record and a team-first mentality, James looks ready to make an immediate impact for the Lords both on the field and in the classroom.
The OCAA is set to announce the 2026 men's baseball schedule on Tuesday, June 16.
