KINGSTON, Ont. - The Durham Lords earned a hard-fought 46-39 road win over the St. Lawrence Surge on Saturday afternoon, winning their first two games of the winter semester.
Durham started slow offensively, trailing 23-17 by halftime but found another gear after coming back from the locker room.
St. Lawrence were held to single-digit points in three consecutive quarters to close out the game, while the Lords only got stronger offensively with 29 second half points.
The Lords were disciplined defensively, limiting second-chance opportunities and forcing turnovers at critical moments.Â
Sarah-Jane Laplante led the Lords offensively with 15 points, adding four steals, three rebounds and three assists.
Telia Campbell had a double-double performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds, five of which were offensive and five defensive.
Kathy Orellana finished the day with seven points and six steals. Meanwhile, Destinee archer went 2-for-2 from the field to tally five points, two steals and an assist.
As a team, Durham narrowly won the rebounding battle and matched St. Lawrence possession for possession, ultimately doing just enough to secure the win.
The Lords look ahead to their first home game since November on Friday, January 23 as Durham will host the Algonquin Wolves at 6:00 p.m. for Jersey Night.
