NORTH YORK, Ont. – The women's basketball team battled hard at Magna Hall Gymnasium, closing the game with a steady fourth quarter in a 53-34 loss against the Seneca Sting.
Durham opened the scoring when Taige Matosas-Adderley finished a layup early in the first, but Seneca's defensive pressure created extra possessions and helped the hosts build momentum. The Sting carried a 13-6 lead after one.
In the second quarter, Durham found some offence at the free-throw line and settled in defensively. Sarah-Jane Laplante knocked down a three and Destinee Archer finished at the rim as Durham trimmed the gap, heading into halftime down 23-17.
Seneca separated in the third, holding Durham to four points in the frame to extend the margin. Durham continued to compete in the fourth, matching Seneca 13-13 over the final 10 minutes, highlighted by a pair of late triples from Laplante to finish the night with pace and energy.
Laplante led Durham with 11 points, hitting three 3-pointers and added four rebounds and two steals.
Archer recorded six points, three rebounds, two steals and an assist, while Matosas-Adderley chipped in four points with four rebounds and an assist.
