BELLEVILLE, Ont. – Durham fell short against the undefeated Loyalist Lancers on Saturday afternoon in women's basketball.
Durham opened the game with energy and matched Loyalist through much of the first quarter, with
Sarah-Jane Laplante and
Kathy Orellana helping the Lords stay within striking distance. Loyalist held a slim 21-17 lead after 10 minutes.
Loyalist began to pull away in the second quarter, using strong perimeter shooting and transition play to extend their advantage. Despite solid stretches from Durham, Loyalist outscored the Lords 27-14 in the frame to take a 48–31 lead into halftime.
The third quarter proved challenging for Durham, as the Lancers continued to build momentum on both ends of the floor. Durham showed resilience in the fourth, continuing to compete and generate chances, but Loyalist maintained control and closed out the game.
Laplante finished with nine points and added three rebounds, while Orellana contributed eight points and five rebounds.
Destinee Archer also provided a spark off the bench, scoring eight points on 4-of-7 shooting, while
Aiesha Lewis recorded a strong defensive performance with 10 rebounds, nine of which were defensive.
Beatrice Johnson added four points and seven rebounds, and
Camryn Wood chipped in with nine boards and two steals.
Telia Campbell finished the gay with six points, three rebounds and steal.
As a team, Durham finished with 45 rebounds and matched Loyalist in bench scoring, with 22 points from reserves. The Lords also generated 24 points in the paint and showed consistent effort on the glass.
The Lords will close out their regular season with a pair of 6 p.m. home games against the Georgian Grizzlies and George Brown Huskies on Wednesday, February 11 and Friday, February 13.
