OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team booked their spot in the quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon as the Lords claimed the qualifier in three sets over the Conestoga Condors, winning 25-15, 25-22, and 25-15.
The opening frame set the tone early, as the Lords established control with strong serving and steady offence to build a comfortable lead.
Durham continued that momentum in the second set, but Conestoga responded with increased pressure, keeping the score close into the later stages.Â
The Lords stayed composed, closing out the frame to take a two-set advantage. In the third, Durham regained full control, pulling away midway through the set and sealing the match with a confident finish.
Elizabeth McFarland led the Durham offence with 16 kills on 30 attempts, posting a .400 hitting percentage while adding three service aces and seven digs.Â
Chelsea Oke also had a strong performance, recording nine kills and finishing with 10.0 points, while Veronika Cavojska contributed eight kills and seven digs.
Setter Brooke Young directed the offence effectively, tallying 34 assists along with six digs and a solo block.Â
Jessie Buck added seven kills on efficient .438 hitting and served up two aces, while Tia Chang chipped in with two kills and a block.
Defensively, Jessica Docherty anchored the backcourt with 11 digs, and Julie Wong added seven. Maxine Felsbourg and Cavojska each recorded service aces as Durham applied consistent pressure from the service line.
As a team, the Lords hit .288 and finished with 43 kills and nine aces, limiting Conestoga's opportunities throughout the match. Durham also recorded 51 digs and two solo blocks in a balanced team effort.
With the win in their OCAA championship qualifier, the Lords advance to the quarter-final round where they will host the Cambrian Golden Shield from the OCAA's west division next Saturday.
