KING CITY, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team will compete for a bronze medal on Saturday afternoon after falling in four sets to the St. Clair Saints.
Durham battled hard once again in the latest edition of the Sledgehammer Series. The Lords took the opening set and was two points away from stealing the third to take the lead back, but St. Clair College managed to edge the key moments in a four-set semifinal decision.
The Lords were led offensively by Jessie Buck, who recorded 10 kills on 19 swings while hitting .474 and adding six digs and one block assist for 12.0 points.
Elizabeth McFarland also produced 12.0 points with eight kills, 10 digs and three solo blocks, earning player of the match honours.
Chelsea Oke contributed seven kills, one service ace and 10 digs for 9.0 points.
Brooke Young directed the offence with 25 assists and eight digs, as Durham finished with 32 kills and six service aces as a team.
Defensively, the Lords totalled 63 digs and nine solo blocks, continuing the backcourt consistency that has defined their season.
With the result, Durham will now turn its attention to the bronze medal match on Saturday, February 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Seneca's King City campus.
The Lords will face the Seneca Sting, looking to secure the team's 16th OCAA medal in program history and close out championship weekend on the podium.
