OSHAWA, Ont. – Durham's men's volleyball team earned a four-set victory over the Fleming Phoenix on Saturday to round out the regular season.
The Lords opened the match with a strong start, controlling the tempo in the first set behind consistent attacking and solid serve reception. Durham built an early lead and closed out the frame 25-15.
In the second set, Fleming responded with increased pressure at the net and from the service line. The visitors edged out Durham in a tight finish, taking the set 26-24 to even the match.
Durham regrouped in the third set, re-establishing its offensive rhythm and limiting Fleming's scoring opportunities. Strong setting and balanced attacking helped the Lords pull away late for a 25-19 win. The hosts carried that momentum into the fourth set, maintaining control throughout and closing the match with a decisive 25-13 victory.
Offensively, Durham was led by
Jonas Felix, who finished with a team-high 13.0 points on eight kills and five service aces while hitting .429.
Will Doucet also recorded 11.0 points, including nine kills on 16 attempts, while adding a block.
Ryan McGilvray contributed 10.0 points with nine kills and eight digs, providing a strong two-way presence.
Owen Lunn added six kills and three blocks, while
Jalen Arias ran the offence with 28 assists, three aces and seven digs.
Shane Poleon finished with four kills and
Sidney Stuart added three points of his own.
Defensively,
Ravi Hunter anchored the backcourt with 12 digs, while Durham finished with 54 total digs and limited Fleming to a .042 hitting percentage.
As a team, the Lords hit .306 and recorded 12 service aces, applying steady pressure throughout the match.
