OSHAWA, Ont. - Former Durham College soccer coach Vaso Vujanovic is inviting former players, colleagues, friends, and family members to help tell the story of his life.
Vujanovic is currently writing a book titled The Long Road to Belonging, scheduled for release in 2026. The book will reflect on a journey that began in a small village in Bosnia during wartime and eventually led him to Oshawa, where he spent more than 32 years working at Durham College and over 40 years coaching athletes of all ages.
Known throughout the Durham College community as a dedicated coach, mentor, and leader, Vujanovic played a significant role in shaping the lives of countless student-athletes during his time with the Lords soccer program.
As part of the project, Vujanovic is asking those who crossed paths with him throughout the years to share stories, memories, and photographs that could help bring the book to life. Contributions can range from heartfelt reflections to funny moments from practices, games, and team trips.
Members of the Durham College community interested in contributing can send their submissions to athletics@durhamcollege.ca.
Now 85 years old and living in Priceville, Ont., Vujanovic continues to reflect on the people and experiences that shaped what he describes as "the long road" that brought him to Canada and to Durham College.
