Werner, a first-year broadcasting – radio and contemporary media major, was critical to the Lords 3-1 win over St. Lawrence on Friday night, which secured the Lords first place finish in the OCAA east. Hosting the Surge at Vaso's Field in the regular season finale, DC needed to win by two or more goals in order to leapfrog St. Lawrence for first place. After the Lords jumped ahead 3-1 in the 38th minute it was Werner who ensured the two goal lead stood tall. Spectacular through the remaining 50 minutes of action, Werner turned aside a number of Surge coring chances, registering nine total saves including an improbable penalty kick save just seconds following the Lords third goal. Adding another eight saves in DC's Tuesday match last week against Centennial, Werner finished the season fourth in the province with 39 total saves, along with ranking top 10 in goals against (7) and save percentage (.848).
