Durham College rebounds after tough start to day one of the OCAA Championship

TORONTO, Ont. - Durham College opened the OCAA Championship with a 14-4 loss to Humber before rebounding in a 9-3 win over George Brown which guaranteed a top three placing for the Lords.

In game one, the Lords started strong breaking out to a 4-1 lead in the first three innings. Scoring for the Lords began when Michael Cyr (Whitby, Ont.) was able to a beat a throw to home plate in the second inning. Two more runs were scored in the same inning when Spencer Green (Mallorytown, Ont.) and Ryan George (Whitby, Ont.) were batted in on a David Fischer (Oshawa, Ont.) single.

However, momentum quickly shifted in the game in the third inning after the Lords were unable to capitalize with bases loaded and no outs. Humber took to the bottom of the third rejuvenated after the defensive stand and scored four runs before exploding for nine in the fourth.

Ryan Norris (Oshawa, Ont.) pitched three innings for the Lords allowing five earned runs on four hits while earning three strikeouts. Fischer and Wesley Hardwick (Toronto, Ont.) appeared in relief.
Fischer was named the game's most valuable player for the Lords going 1-for-3 at the plate while collecting two RBIs.

Game two saw an outstanding pitching performance from starting pitcher AJ Clark (Fonthill, Ont.). Clark pitched a complete game allowing only three earned runs while striking out five. Clark would be named game MVP in the victory.

The offensive effort was led by Green who opened the scoring in the third inning with an RBI triple. Green would finish the game 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run. Strong performances were also had by George who was solid in the field at shortstop and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run at the plate while Jack Lang also produced going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs.

The Lords will now compete in the bronze medal game on Saturday at 10 a.m. A victory for the Lords will mean an appearance in the gold medal match against St. Clair and an automatic berth to next weekend's OUA/OCAA Championship.
