OCAA Women's Volleyball: Trent defeated Durham 3-2

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team just fell short of an amazing comeback on Thursday night but Trent University managed to escape the CRWC with a 3-2 victory in the Lords' home opener.

The Lords dropped the first two sets (25-18, 26-24), but stormed back with two wins of their own (25-22, 25-20) to level the score at 2-2. In the fifth and deciding set, Trent would get off to a great start and never relinquish the lead as they won by a score of 15-8.

Durham setters Meghan Renwick (Brooklin, Ont.) and Joelle Parnham (Orillia, Ont.) fed outside hitter Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) early and often as she had 37 attacks in the match. Broad was able to convert on over half of them as she registered 19 kills, while adding two blocks and an ace to give her a game high 22-point performance.

Renwick and Parnham finished with 13 and 12 assists respectively, while Alysha Johnson (Whitby, Ont.) chipped in with 10. Libero Emily Gilbert (Whitby, Ont.) had 11 digs for the Lords.

Rebecca Van Staalduinen and Alana MacLean had 11 kills apiece for Trent while Jaime Fryer had five aces.

This is the second time in seven days Trent has earned a 3-2 victory over Durham, as they had a repeat performance from the Sheridan Invitational in Oakville.

Durham will look to rebound and pick up their first conference win of the year next Wednesday when they head to Toronto to take on the George Brown Huskies.
