OCAA Women's Basketball: Durham defeated Georgian 57-43

BARRIE, Ont. – Durham College cruised to their fourth straight conference win with a 57-43 victory over the Georgian Grizzlies in OCAA women's basketball Wednesday night.

After allowing an average of 63.6 points in their first five games of the season, the Lords defence has drastically improved allowing 19 and 43 points in wins over Fleming and Georgian.

The Lords were led by Kauri LaFontaine (Whitby, Ont.) who drained 18 points in the win. Kelsey Hare (Whitby, Ont.) added 13 points while Keriann Sullivan (Scarborough, Ont.) and Hellen Dumbuya (Whitby, Ont.) had eight points apiece.

With Durham leading 16-12 after the first quarter, the Lords defence took control of the game holding the Grizzlies to just six points over the next ten minutes. Scoring opened up in the second half with Durham besting the Grizzlies 31-25 to earn the double-digit victory.

Durham is 5-2 in conference action (14-4 overall) and sits in third place in the OCAA east region. The Lords trail the Algonquin Thunder (7-0) and St. Lawrence Vikings (6-1), who are currently first and third in the OCAA rankings. Georgian falls to seventh place with a 2-5 record.

The Lords will wrap up the 2013 portion of their schedule on Wednesday night when they head to Toronto to take on the George Brown Huskies (3-3).
