Lords cannot hold onto a seventh inning lead

OCAA Men's Baseball: Humber defeated Durham 6-3

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's baseball team failed to close out their OCAA season opener on Tuesday night as the Humber Hawks scored five runs in the seventh inning to win by a final score of 6-3.

The Lords took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs scored, but the Hawks stormed back with a five run seventh inning to take a 6-3 lead. In the bottom of the seventh, the Lords failed to produce any runs as the Hawks earned their first win of the year.

Durham College starting pitcher Ryan Norris (Oshawa, Ont.) pitched a gem as he went five innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five Hawk batters.

Veteran Dale Valade (North Bay, Ont.) suffered the loss with 1.1 innings pitched and allowing all five seventh inning runs.

Michael Cyr (Whitby, Ont.) went 2-for-2 at the plate for Durham while freshmen David Fischer (Oshawa, Ont.) and Keenan Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) were both 2-for-4.

The Lords will be back home on Thursday night as they host the George Brown Huskies at 7 p.m. Durham College alumni Kyle MacKinnon and Gary Rose are the coaches of the Huskies, who are in their first year back in collegiate baseball.
