Lords run away with latest win over Georgian

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's basketball team extended their current winning streak to seven games after defeating Georgian College 64-42 Friday night at the CRWC.

The Lords pulled away from the Grizzlies early and proceeded to maintain a healthy lead throughout. Durham's strong defensive play allowed them to pull away as the Lords had 25 points off turnovers throughout the four quarters.

For the second straight game, Kauri LaFontaine (Whitby, Ont.) showed an all-star form nearly earning a triple-double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and six assists. LaFontaine was also key on defence as she was the Lords primary lane protector and collected 10 of her 11 rebounds on the defensive glass.

Kate Mowat (Whitby, Ont.) also shined in the Lords latest victory showcasing her ability to be a presence in the paint and from behind the arc. Mowat finished a very efficient offensive night with 19 points going 7-for-10 from the floor and 5-for-8 from three-point range.

The victory sets up a crucial match-up with the undefeated Algonquin Thunder who are currently ranked fifth in the country and lead the OCAA east region with an 8-0 record. The Lords will take their 8-2 record to the nation's capital in search of an upset on January 17 with tip-off at 6 p.m.
