OUA/OCAA Men's Baseball Championship: Brock defeats Durham 7-4 WINDSOR, Ont. – A late rally could not propel the Durham College baseball team to victory in game one of the OUA/OCAA Baseball Championship, as they dropped a 7-4 decision to the Brock Badgers.
Defensive miscues proved to be the Lords downfall on Friday evening, as they committed five errors, which played a big part in Brock's offence scoring in every inning except the fourth.
Trailing 7-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Durham bats finally came alive as they put together a string of hits. With four runs on the board, Brock would eventually get out of the jam as the OUA champions earned the three-run victory.
Aaron McQuillen (Ajax, Ont.) led the Durham offence with two hits in four at bats while driving in a run in the seventh inning.
Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) also continued to swing a hot stick as he went 1-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI.
Ilija Bozinovski (Ajax, Ont.) got the start for Durham and pitched into the sixth inning, allowing four earned runs off of eight hits while striking out two.
Paul Zettler (Mississauga, Ont.) did a good job at shutting down the Badgers offence in relief as he did not allow a Badger on board in two-thirds of an inning pitched.
The Lords will take on the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. The OCAA champion St. Clair Saints rolled to an 11-3 victory over Waterloo in the opening game of the championship.
