Durham College defeats Georgian 72-71 OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's basketball team went on a 7-0 run in the final moments of Friday's game against the Georgian Grizzlies to win a nail-biter 72-71.
Durham was ahead 19-18 after the opening quarter, but fell behind 36-33 by halftime.
The two teams tied the third quarter 21-21, sending the Lords into the final 10 minutes trailing by three.
After Durham took the lead for the first time since the first quarter, Georgian went on a 5-0 run to put themselves in the driver's seat again. That said, there was no quit in the Lords as they battled back to tie the game 71-71. A foul shot by
Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) with seconds remaining on the clock was the winning basket.
Panchan led the Lords with 25 points, while
Hellen Dumbuya (Whitby, Ont.) scored 19. Dumbuya also led the team in rebounds with 15.
Erial Barnard led the Grizzlies offence with 17 points, with Hannah Pearsall not far behind her with 16.
