Lords lose a close one to LoyalistOCAA Women's Soccer: Loyalist defeated Durham 2-1 BELLEVILLE, Ont. – The Durham College women's soccer team continued to struggle out of the gate as they dropped a 2-1 decision to the Loyalist Lancers on Tuesday night in Belleville.
Durham is 0-3-1 to start the season and have been outscored 1-16 in the four conference matches. This was the first time since the 2001 season that Durham has not beat Loyalist in their annual regular season match.
Loyalist opened up scoring in the 39
th minute off a shot from 30 yards out after a miscue by Durham's defensive unit. However, the Lords were able to equal the score just before halftime when
Kayla Hellam (Oshawa, Ont.) played a direct ball up to Ashley Weissbach (Oshawa, Ont.) who flicked it on with her head for Cailey Giorgi (Oshawa, Ont.) who was able to convert on a great strike from about 25 yards out.
Durham had plenty of chances to take the lead in the second half, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities while controlling the flow of the game. The lack of execution on the offensive end would end up hurting the Lords as they were unable to clear a crossing attempt which resulted in a goal by Hailey Voskamp with less than 15 minutes on the clock.
Up next for Durham is a match with the Centennial Colts on Saturday, September 20 in Scarborough. The Colts are 0-2-0 to start the year.
