Lords end their weekend with their first win LONDON, Ont. – Although the first three games of the Durham College baseball team's opening weekend did not go as planned, the Lords finished on a high note with a 6-1 victory over the Fanshawe Falcons.
The Lords will enter home play with a 1-3 conference record after opening up the season with back-to-back losses to the defending OCAA champion St. Clair Saints, followed up with a 12-5 loss to Fanshawe. Durham's opener is scheduled for Wednesday night when they host the Humber Hawks, who were rained out against George Brown on Saturday.
GAME ONE – St. Clair defeated Durham 8-2 Two bad innings cost the Lords their opening game against St. Clair on Saturday, as the Saints put four runs on the board in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go on and win by a final score of 8-2.
The Lords got out to an early lead scoring a run in the first inning, but could not find a way to stop the Saints' bats from coming alive in the later innings.
Durham starting pitcher
Dakota Parsons (Pickering, Ont.) suffered the loss as he pitched into the fifth inning allowing five earned runs on eight hits while striking out four.
The Lords defence struggled as much as the offence did as they put up five errors while matching the same amount of hits.
Ben deBoer (Kendal, Ont.) and
Aaron McQuillen (Ajax, Ont.) scored the two lone runs for Durham.
GAME TWO – St. Clair defeated Durham 6-2 Errors burned the Lords once again as they committed six in game two against the Saints, bringing their total to 11 on the day. St. Clair would take advantage of the Lords' miscues, scoring four unearned runs in the victory on only six hits.
Durham bats were silenced as they could only muster three hits over seven innings.
Jordan Edmonds (Horsham, UK) made his OCAA debut on the bump, as he allowed five hits and two earned runs over four innings of work.
Paul Zettler (Mississauga, Ont.) made his second appearance of the day and allowed one unearned run over two innings.
GAME THREE – Fanshawe defeated Durham 12-5 After the top of the first inning against the first year Fanshawe Falcons, it looked as if Durham was going to cruise to their first victory of the season. However, the team from London had different thoughts and they fought back with 10 runs over the next two innings and went on to win by a final score of 12-5.
Ryan Norris (Oshawa, Ont.) got the start for Durham and pitched a complete game despite allowing 12 runs, 11 of which were earned on 11 Fanshawe hits.
Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ont.) got the Lords off to the great start with a home run, but the team was only able to post five hits in the loss.
GAME FOUR – Durham defeated Fanshawe 6-1 Durham bats finally woke up in the second inning of game two against Fanshawe, as they scored five runs, which propelled them to a 6-1 victory.
Kyle Conquer (Ajax, Ont.) had a strong game at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Ilija Bozinovski (Ajax, Ont.) only allowed one run that came in the bottom of the seventh inning, as he pitched a complete game in the Lords first win of the season. Bozinovski's line ended with seven innings pitched, one run on three hits with three strikeouts.
Although Durham hitters had a good second inning, they only managed to record four hits.
