Box Score OCAA Women's Volleyball: Canadore defeated Durham 3-0 NORTH BAY, Ont. – Home court advantage definitely played a role in the season series between Durham College and the Canadore Panthers in OCAA women's volleyball this season.
One of the marquee wins for Durham in their eight-game win streak was a 3-1 home victory over the Panthers. On Saturday afternoon, the Lords streak came to a halt as the Panthers earned a 3-0 sweep.
Backcourt defence was the key to victory for the Panthers as six players had nine or more digs. The Lords offence was held to just 16 kills on 48 attacks. Libero
Kayla Donahue (Ajax, Ont.) had a standout game for Durham defensively, recording a season high 20 digs.
The second set turned out to be the turning point in the match, as Canadore narrowly pulled out a 26-24 victory giving them a 2-0 advantage. The Panthers cruised in the third set winning by a score of 25-19, giving them their fourth straight win.
Caitlin Herbert of Canadore led all scorers with 13 kills and two blocks. Durham middle
Melissa Semeniuk (Pickering, Ont.) had three kills, two blocks and two aces while
Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) had five kills and one block.
Durham and Canadore are tied for second place in the OCAA east region with nine wins, but the Panthers have an advantage with one game in hand. Seneca, Durham's next opponent, is also in the mix with a 9-4 record. The top two teams in the region receive a bye to the OCAA championship in Ancaster, Ont.
