OCAA Women's BasketballCentennial defeats Durham 71-69 OSHAWA, Ont. – Centennial's strong play in the fourth quarter against the Durham College women's basketball team proved to be enough to give them an important two points as the teams near the playoffs.
Up 28-21 at halftime and 45-38 after three quarters, the Lords looked poised to take the second of two meetings between the two schools. The Colts didn't let up and intense defensive pressure and improved offence allowed them to tie the game 59-59 with three seconds on the clock to force overtime.
In extra time it was Durham that went ahead early, 64-63, but when the Colts took the lead next they didn't give it back. The Lords closed the gap to one, but a final foul shot by Sweet Cunanan ended the contest 71-69 in favour of the Colts.
Making her return to the lineup,
Lindsay Panchan (Ajax, Ont.) had a double-double with 31 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Lords offensively. She was also a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Alyxandra Francisco (Whitby, Ont.) had 15 points and eight rebounds for Durham, while
Kayla Marshall (Ottawa, Ont.) added 13 points and seven assists.
Sweet Cunanan and Samantha Reid each scored 17 points for Centennial, with Reid also grabbing a monstrous 26 rebounds in the game.
Durham is next in action on Friday night in Barrie when they visit the Georgian Grizzlies.
