OSHAWA, Ont. – With a pair of wins over the George Brown Huskies on Wednesday night, the Durham College men's baseball team jumped into third place in the OCAA conference standings.
Although the Lords failed to match their run total of 29 against George Brown last week, they were still able to generate enough offence to earn the season sweep with wins of 6-2 and 10-3.
Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) got the start in game one and allowed no earned runs over 6.1 innings of work. He held Husky batters to just four hits while striking out five.
Cole Casford (Kingston, Ont.) closed out the game in the seventh while George Brown's Emilio Paglia suffered the loss.
Jack Lang (Pickering, Ont.) and
Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.) each had two hits in the win while
Dylan Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
Although George Brown was able to record 11 hits in game two, the Husky offence failed to take advantage of their opportunities as they only generated three runs. A prime example of Durham's fine defence was in the first inning when Lang threw out consecutive base runners trying to steal second.
Jordan Edmonds (Horsham, UK) earned the win, allowing all three earned runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings of work.
Paul Zettler (Mississauga, Ont.) recorded the extended save, settling down after allowing two walks to start his appearance.
Lang had his second multi-hit game of the night as he went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI.
Ben deBoer (Kendal, Ont.) and
Daniel Forbes (Perth, Ont.) also had two hits in the win.
The Lords sit in third place with a record of 5-5 with Fanshawe close behind at 4-3. The two teams will square off for the first time this season at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
