OAKVILLE, Ont. - The Durham College women's volleyball team were unable to take the Wannamaker Invitational title from the host Sheridan Bruins over the weekend as the Lords fell 3-1 in the tournament final on Saturday.
After opening with a 25-17 win in the first set against the Bruins, Durham lost the second set by the same score to tie the match 1-1.
In the third it was Sheridan that won the game 25-19, taking a 2-1 lead into the fourth set. Unfortunately for the Lords, the Bruins were on point as they won the fourth and final set 25-17 to win the match and their second straight invitational title.
"It was a great weekend for us as the team prepares for the upcoming season," said women's volleyball head coach
Tony Clarke. "We learned a lot and our team played well together."
The Lords road to the tournament final started with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-16, 25-22) victory over the Mohawk Mountaineers on Friday.
Saturday morning Durham faced Redeemer, beating the Royals 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-20) to advance to the championship game.
Durham's next match is their first game of the regular season. They travel to Centennial to face the Colts on Thursday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m.
