Hawks end baseball season for Durham College

LONDON, Ont. – The 2015 season came to a close on Friday for the Durham College men's baseball team after a pair of lopsided losses at the OCAA championship hosted by the Fanshawe Falcons.

Durham opened the day against the undefeated St. Clair Saints at Labatt Park. The Lords scored their lone run of the 11-1 game in the top of the first, but the Saints answered in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of their own.

St. Clair scored single tallies in the next two innings before a big five-run fourth inning to blow the game open. In the bottom of the sixth they scored two more to end the game.

Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) was named the player of the game for Durham, while Teiden Frias received the honour for St. Clair.

Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) took the loss for the Lords after allowing seven earned runs on nine hits and a walk over 3.1 innings. In relief Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ont.) pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one earned run on a hit and three walks.

Frias picked up the win for St. Clair with only three hits allowed over 6.0 innings. He also struck out five Durham batters.

With the loss Durham had to play back-to-back games, the elimination game against the Humber Hawks, who had lost the opening game of the tournament to the host Fanshawe Falcons.

The Lords had another strong start, picking up two runs in the top of the first inning, but were unable to pick up a win against the same Humber team they beat in back-to-back games last Saturday afternoon. The Hawks took the elimination game 10-2.

Brendon Dadson (Bowmanville, Ont.) took the loss for Durham after allowing five earned runs through 1.2 innings on two hits and five walks, while striking out two Humber batters.

Andrew Blakey earned the win for the Hawks after his 3.1 inning performance. He allowed no earned runs on two hits and five walks.

Durham's Daniel Forbes (Perth, Ont.) and Humber's Ken Hahnfeld were named the players of the game.
