Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team defeated the Georgian Grizzlies 3-1 on Thursday night to improve to 9-1 in conference play this season, which is tied with the Canadore Panthers for first place in the OCAA east division.
It was far from easy though, as the Grizzlies came out flying in the first. Durham trailed 17-12 midway through the set, but would tie it 21-21. Georgian took a two point lead, but Durham rattled off four straight points to take it 25-23.
The second was all Lords after they broke the 6-6 tie early in the set. They won it handily 25-13.
Not to go without a fight, Georgian bounced back late in the third set, down 23-19, to tie it 23-23. They eventually won the set 25-23.
In the fourth Durham dominated again to take the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.
Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) led the Lords with 12 kills and a service ace, while Stephanie LaRose (Whitby, Ont.) added 10 kills, an ace and a block.
At the net it was
Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.) and
Kristen Curtis (Frankford, Ont.) who dominated, each picking up five blocks. Curtis also added six kills, while Kalmeyer had two.
Georgian's Brittany Coughlin paced her team with 11 kills and an ace, with Quinn McGregor adding seven kills.
Durham is now off until Jan. 2-3 when they host the Adidas Cup at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre in Oshawa. The tournament will welcome 13 other teams over the two days of play.
The Lords first conference game of 2016 will be Jan. 7 at home when they host the Centennial Colts.
