TORONTO, Ont. – After a rough start to the season, the Durham College men's baseball team picked up a pair of wins Wednesday night against the George Brown Huskies to get back to .500.
The Lords didn't waste any time in sweeping the Huskies as they brought the mercy rule into effect in both games. Durham won the first game 16-3 (five innings) before picking up a 13–1 victory (five innings).
Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ont.) earned the win on the mound for Durham. Fearon's line over his four innings pitched was six strikeouts, while allowing three runs on six hits and three walks.
Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) was 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lords offence. Chilvers had a grand slam to earn his four RBIs.
Spencer Edwards (Vineland, Ont.),
Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.) and
Ben deBoer (Kendal, Ont.) each had two runs scored and two RBIs.
In the second half of the doubleheader Legros took the mound for the Lords. Over five innings he allowed just one run on two hits and four walks, while striking out two.
At the plate
Jack Rankin (Stratford, Ont.) and
Kadeev Bembridge (Whitby, Ont.) led Durham. Rankin was 1-for-2 with a homerun and two RBIs, while Bembridge was 1-for-2 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a walk.
Durham's road swing has come to a close as they return to Oshawa for their first home game of the season at Kinsmen Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 27 against the Humber Hawks.
First pitch of the doubleheader will be 1 p.m. The Lords will be raising funds for Play Global! throughout the game and collecting equipment to send overseas to those less fortunate.
