Box Score OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team made quick work of the Centennial Colts in their opening conference match of 2016 winning 3-0.
The win marked Durham's sixth straight in OCAA conference play as they improve to 10-1 and sit a half game ahead of the idle Canadore Panthers (9-1) for first place in the eastern conference.
Despite a feisty effort from the Colts, the Lords dominated from start to finish winning by set scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-18.
Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) hit another milestone in her impressive career as she recorded 18 points (15 kills, three blocks) in the match to eclipse the 600-point mark. With 473 career kills, she is only nine shy of Mandi Doris who is Durham's career leader.
The Lords service game was a key to victory as they had nine aces led by
Stephanie Larose (Whitby, Ont.) with four. Durham was also dominant at the net with 10 blocks compared to zero for Centennial.
Kristen Curtis (Frankford, Ont.) and
Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.) chipped in eight points apiece with each middle going 6-for-13 on kill attempts. Leading the Colts offence was Lizzie Bowers with six kills and one ace.
Durham sweeps the season series over Centennial 2-0 as the Colts made their return OCAA women's volleyball this season.
Next up for Durham is a road match at Loyalist on Wednesday, Jan. 13. Curtis will make her return to Belleville after playing two seasons with the Lancers in 2011-12 and 2012-13 where she was a CCAA national scholar.
