Fanshawe sweeps the season series over Durham

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College baseball team had chances to win on Thursday night but could not come up with a pair of timely hits as the Fanshawe Falcons won by scores of 6-5 and 3-1.

Fanshawe sweeps Durham 4-0 and moves one game back of the Lords for third place. Positioning for the final four is tight with Durham sitting one game back of Humber and two games back of St. Clair.

In both games, Durham had the bases loaded in the seventh with a chance to win the game. Durham would get doubled up to end game one as Tristan Willcocks (Whitby, Ont.) lined out to first and base runner Kadeev Bembridge (Whitby, Ont.) could not tag up in time. In game two, Jordan D'Amico (Courtice, Ont.) laced the ball to the left-centre gap but the Falcon outfielder made a stretched-out catch to end the game.

In game one, Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) hit a solo home run in the first inning for Durham as he went 2-for-4 at the plate. Jack Rankin (Orillia, Ont.) was 2-for-3 and Willcocks was 2-for-4.

Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.) had a quality start allowing three earned runs over six innings of work. Travis Doyle (Grimsby, Ont.) suffered the loss allowing three earned runs in the seventh inning. He could not find his control as he allowed three walks while getting only one out.

Fanshawe lefty Tyler Wood would shut down the Lords bats in game two as he gave up just one earned run over 6.1 innings of work. Durham managed to get six hits and one walk in the losing effort. Tyler Rose picked up the two-out save.

Fanshawe made the most of their opportunities as they scored three runs off of only four hits. They showed a lot of patience at the plate getting five walks. Stewart pitched five innings and gave up three earned runs. Eric Beharri (Burlington, Ont.) looked impressive over two innings of work as he sat the Falcons down in order.

Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) scored the Lords lone run as Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.) knocked him in off a sac fly following a triple. Chilvers entered the game with a .485 batting average, the second highest in the OCAA.

Durham will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon when they host the Humber Hawks. The teams split their doubleheader in Toronto early in the season. First pitch at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium is at 1 p.m.
