OAKVILLE, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team capped off their preseason by winning the Sheridan Invitational 3-2 over the Centennial Colts on Saturday night.
The Lords opened with a 25-19 set win, but saw the Colts come back and win 25-17 in the second.
Again the teams traded sets as Durham won the third 25-21 and Centennial won the fourth 25-16 to take the fourth to force the fifth and final set.
Another evenly played set ended with the Lords edging the Colts 16-14.
Shannon Dean (Whitby, Ont.) led Durham with 13 kills.
Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) had 12 kills and 12 digs for the Lords, while
Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) and
Brier Kaake (Whitby, Ont.) had 12 and 10 digs respectively.
To make the final the Lords defeated the Conestoga Condors 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-14) to open the tournament on Friday night.
Dean led the team with 10 kills and five aces, while Marshall added four aces.
In Saturday's tournament semifinal against Canadian Mennonite University the Lords also won in straight sets, 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-21), over the Blazers.
Marshall led Durham's offence with 12 kills and two aces. Joensen added seven kills.
Durham will now prepare for their season opener in North Bay against the Canadore Panthers on Sunday. First serve is 1 p.m.
