OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College baseball team moved one step closer to booking a spot in the OCAA championship after their two-game sweep over Seneca at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium Wednesday night.
Seneca would hang tough with Durham in game one but the Lords eventually earned a 6-2 victory. Durham led from start to finish in game two as they shutout the Sting 7-0.
Durham (9-3) jumps ahead of Fanshawe (6-4) for second place in the OCAA standings. Humber (7-5) earned a pair of wins over George Brown (1-13) to move within two games of the Lords.
Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.) earned his third win in as many starts as he held Seneca to a pair of runs over seven innings of work.
Durham held on to a narrow 3-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth but would eventually bust things wide open when
Brendon Dadson (Bowmanville, Ont.) hit a bases clearing triple off the wall to extend Durham's lead to 6-2. Dadson finished the night three hits and four RBIs.
Despite scoring six runs, Dadson was the only Lord with a multi-hit game.
Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) got the start in game two and was unstoppable as he earned the complete game shutout victory. Stewart struck out nine batters and only allowed four base runners on all night. Stewart has a .86 ERA with a 3-1 record in four games this season.
Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) had a big game going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.),
Braden Weir (Whitby, Ont.) and
Jordan D'Amico (Courtice, Ont.) all had two hits apiece.
Durham will hit the road this weekend for a make-up doubleheader against the first place St. Clair Saints. St. Clair is 8-0 this season and have outscored their opponents 87-15. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams.
