Box Score NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team has won their opening match at the OCAA championship.
Durham defeated Cambrian College in straight sets (27-25, 25-21, 25-16) to advance to the provincial semifinal Friday night. The Lords will play the Niagara Knights at 6 p.m., with the winner moving onto the final on Saturday at 4 p.m.
"We knew it wouldn't be easy today and Cambrian made us work for every point," said Durham College head coach
Tony Clarke. "We're happy with the win, but will look to continue improving throughout the tournament as we move onto the semifinal match on Friday night."
The Lords player of the match was
Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) who finished with 10 kills, two blocks and eight digs.
OCAA first team all-star
Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) also had 10 kills and two blocks. Fellow all-star
Kristen Curtis (Frankford, Ont.) earned six kills, alongside two blocks.
Middle
Lucia Kalmeyer (Oshawa, Ont.) had a huge match at the net with four blocks, while earning eight kills. Setter
Megan Romain (Ajax, Ont.) had 33 assists, three service aces, a kill and eight digs.
Cambrian's player of the game, Amanda Kring, led her team with eight kills and eight digs.
Durham and Niagara didn't meet this season in exhibition play.
