Box Score NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Durham College women's volleyball team will play for bronze after falling 3-1 in their OCAA semifinal on Friday to the Niagara Knights.
After suffering a 25-11 first set loss the Lords bounced back in a tight second set to win 27-25.
In the third set, with a chance to gain valuable momentum in the match, Niagara jumped out to a 9-0 lead early. Trailing 17-6, Durham did bounce back, but their late push was stopped by the Knights who won the set 25-21.
With their backs against the wall, the Lords were neck-and-neck against the Knights. Durham led 16-14, but quickly Niagara turned the table to lead 21-17.
The Lords then bounced back and led 25-24, but Niagara won three straight points to take the set 27-25 and the match 3-1.
"We were flat, we just played with Niagara and they were just executing better than we were," said Durham head coach
Tony Clarke.
Jessica Broad (Courtice, Ont.) was named the player of the match for Durham with 14 kills, two aces and four blocks, while Rachel Rivers earned Niagara's honours with eight kills and five aces.
Jasmine Thome had the game-high 15 kills for Niagara.
Allison Marshall (Orillia, Ont.) added 12 kills and a block for Durham, with
Kristen Curtis (Frankford, Ont.) tying Broad's game-high block total of four.
Durham will now face the Fanshawe Falcons at 2 p.m. in the bronze medal match.
