Wild day in Humber ends up with a split

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – The Durham Lords and Humber Hawks put on a show today in Etobicoke with the teams earning a split in their OCAA baseball doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

Durham pulled out a 3-1 extra innings victory in game one followed by Humber walking it off in a 7-6 win in game two.
 
Alec Brown (Bowmanville, Ont.) continued his amazing season on the mound as he pitched the complete game victory, allowing just one earned run in the eighth inning. Brown is 2-0 in OCAA conference play allowing just one earned run over 15 innings of work. His six strikeouts in Saturday's game gives him 13 on the year.
 
Jordan D'Amico (Courtice, Ont.) went 1-for-2 with one run and an RBI while walking twice and Logan Stewart (Lindsay, Ont.) had a clutch two-run double in the eighth.
 
Brendon Dadson (Bowmanville, Ont.) was the lone Lord with a multi-hit game as he went 2-for-3 but was unable to cross the plate.  
 
In game two, Humber was able to rebound as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning.
 
The score would be 6-1 in the top of the seventh and Durham could have easily of packed it in. Showing their resiliency, Durham fought back and managed to score five in the inning to tie the game at 6-6.
 
In the bottom of the seventh, it was Humber's turn to fight back as they earned the walk-off win with two outs on the board.
 
Shaun Slemko (Courtice, Ont.) got the start and pitched six innings allowing four earned runs off of nine hits. Travis Doyle (Grimsby, Ont.) suffered the loss allowing an unearned run in the seventh.
 
Brodie Harkness (Bowmanville, Ont.) was 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk while Jake Legros (Whitby, Ont.), Tyler Nixon (Markham, Ont.) and Stewart had two hits apiece.
 
Durham (5-3) sits in third place, one game back of the Fanshawe Falcons (6-2). Humber is 2-5 on the year and are a half game up on Seneca for the fourth and final playoff position.
 
The Lords will be back home on Sunday as they take on the Lambton Lions in a pair of exhibition games. First pitch at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium is 1 p.m.
