Lords blank Centennial – back in the playoff race

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Durham College women's soccer got themselves back in the playoff mix after a 1-0 victory over the Centennial Colts Thursday night at Vaso's Field.

Durham (2-5-0) leapfrogs Centennial (1-4-2) to move into a tie for fourth place in the OCAA east region standings with Fleming (2-3-0).

Taylor McGee (Bowmanville, Ont.) picked a good time to score her first goal of the season as she hammered the ball into the back of the net from 18 yards out as injury time approached in the first half.

McGee's goal would stand as the game-winner as Heather Travis (Oakville, Ont.) made seven saves for her second shutout of the season. Travis was busy during the second half as Centennial fired nine shot attempts with five of them ending up on target.

Centennial's best chance to tie it came with one minute remaining in the second half but Travis made a leaping save, knocking the ball over the net to preserve the shutout.

Shots on target would end up level at seven apiece.

Durham will look to string together a pair of wins for the first time this season when they head to Sudbury to take on the first place Cambrian Golden Shield (5-1-0) on Sunday at noon. Cambrian beat Durham 3-0 last weekend in Oshawa.
