MONTREAL, Que. – For the first time in recent years, the Durham College women's volleyball team was in Montreal for the preseason, looking to prepare for the upcoming OCAA season.
 
Their first match, similar to men's squad at the Humber Cup, was not an easy one. The Lords opened against defending the champion Édouard-Montpetit Lynx. After splitting the opening two sets, Durham lost the final two and the match 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 23-25, 20-25). Jessica Joensen (Pickering, Ont.) was named the Lords player of the match.
 
On Saturday they wrapped up play against the Lionel-Groulx Nordiques with a similar result, losing 3-1, but was a closer match overall. Durham lost the first set again, but bounced back with a 25-19 win in the second. They fell 25-21 in the third and narrowly lost the fourth 26-24. Camille Lefaive (Whitby, Ont.) was player of the game for Durham.
 
Sunday morning's match was the only one of the weekend the Lords were swept in. Against Bois-de-Boulogne Cavaliers, Durham was in the match, narrowly losing each set, but still finished losing 3-0 (20-25, 23-25, 17-25). Durham's player of the game was Madison McBurney (Whitby, Ont.).
 
The Montreal Cup host, André-Laurendeau, was the last team the Lords faced, which resulted in their lone win of the weekend. Durham lose the opening set for the fourth straight match of the tournament, but battled back to win 25-16, 27-25 and 25-20 to take the match 3-1. Allyson Terwillegar (Enniskillen, Ont.) was the Lords player of the game.
 
Next weekend the Lords have the weekend off as they prepare for the Niagara Invitational on October 14-15.
